Final Project
The final project for idea is making a clock. But this project is a little different because it needs to be made from scratch using three different machines from the year. I chose to make a 3D printed base, laser printed front and letters, with a vinyl design.
3D Base
The first thing I started with was the base of the clock. I needed to begin with inventor and make the basic shape of my base.
After the base had been designed all I had to do was put it into the makerbot software and follow the same directions as the 3D printing individual assignment.
Here is where the base of the clock is being printed and the eventual finished product.
Laser
Next machine I used was the laser printer. This machine is going to be responsible for creating the front design of the clock with the numbers on it. The file was very easy to create all I had to do was create two circles 5 inches in diameter with the numbers in a clock position.
From this point on I had to follow the same procedure as the other laser printing designs and when it came out it looked really good.
This would turn out to be the actual thing that the clock hands are going to point to.
Vinyl
The laser printer file is going to be the exact same file I used for the vinyl design, all I did was remove the lines around the face and the other circle. The ending file looked like this when I did the changes.
The vinyl is very simple, this time I just put this exact file into the computer near the vinyl cutter and it will cut from there. After telling the vinyl exactly where my design is it cut it out and i was able to put it on my clock design finally making my clock using three different machines.
Final product
Once all the pieces have been made the last thing it to assemble them together. First I started by attaching the front laser printed circle and gluing it to the 3D printed base. Next I installed the clock part and the hands to that piece. The back piece of the clock will be added later once the battery has been put in. But that is the basic design of the clock and here is a picture of the final product.
Overall I learned that all the machines in the innovation center can be used together to make so much more. I never would have thought beyond a simple design until this project was brought into action. It has opened my mind to many new possibilities and ideas.
